Welcome Dr. Xiao Yuan to Join CFCS, Peking University
Dr. Xiao Yuan joined Peking University in November 2020 and is currently an assistant professor at Center on Frontiers of Computing Studies, PKU. He received his Bachelor in theoretical physics from Peking University in 2012 and got his PhD in physics from Tsinghua University in 2016. Then he worked as a postdoc at Oxford University from 2017 to 2019 and at Stanford University from 2019 to 2020. His research interests focus on three aspects of quantum information science, including near-term and universal quantum computing, quantum foundation, and quantum cryptography.
Until November 2020, he has published 49 journal papers (including 1 in Review of Modern Physics, 7 in Physical Review Letters, 2 in Physical Review X, 2 in Nature, 5 in NPJ Quantum Information, 1 in Quantum, 1 in Chemical Science, 1 in Optica, 1 in IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 1 in Advanced Quantum Technologies, and 17 in Physical Review A, 1 in Physical Review Applied, 2 in Physical Review Research) and 11 Arxiv preprints.
After joining CFCS, Peking University, Dr. Xiao Yuan established the Quantum Simulation and Quantum Information Lab, focusing on quantum simulation and computing algorithms and quantum information theory. We are currently focusing on three research directions:
• Quantum computing
o Quantum algorithms for NISQ and universal quantum computers
o Quantum error mitigation and quantum error correction
o Benchmarking and optimization for realistic quantum hardware
• Quantum foundation
o Quantum resource theory
o Coherence, entanglement, information scrambling, quantum channel capacity
• Quantum cryptography
o Quantum random number generator
o Quantum key distribution
