One Year Anniversary of Center on Frontiers of Computing Studies

 

On January 16th 2019, the Center on Frontiers of Computing Studies (CFCS) held one-year anniversary. Professor John Hopcroft, Director of CFCS, Professor Wen Gao, Co-Director of CFCS, Jun Yan, Deputy Minister of the International Cooperation Department and more than 20 Turing Class research instructors from the School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science attended the event. The meeting was hosted by Yuqing Kong, the assistant professor of CFCS.

 

Professor Hopcroft and Professor Gao gave speeches in the meeting. Professor Hopcroft highly affirmed the progress of CFCS in the past year. He hoped that CFCS will recruit international outstanding young talents, not only making achievements in scientific research, but also contributing to the improvement of undergraduate teaching. Professor Gao affirmed CFCS's interdisciplinary communication and the progress made by Turing Class. He was delighted to see that many young and promising Turing Class research instructors are involved. He also had high expectation of the development of CFCS and the Turing Class.

Professor Baoquan Chen, Executive Director of CFCS, summarized the progress of CFCS and Turing Class over the past year. He emphasized that all the achievements were the result of joint efforts from everyone. Professor Chen particularly expressed his gratitude to the school and university's great support.

Dr. Baining Guo, Associate Dean of Microsoft Research Asia, as a former student of Professor Hopcroft, shared Professor Hopcroft's important influence on education to him. He also encouraged young teachers that "the investment in education is always the most worthwhile".

At the end, everyone shared the birthday cake together. The one-year anniversary was ended happily in the lively communication and discussion.
