Sci-Tech Winter Olympics Launches its Key Project - “Technology and System of Interactive and Multi-dimensional Game Watching Experience for Ice and Snow Events”

On December 23rd, 2019, Sci-Tech Winter Olympics, the National Key Research and Development Program, launched its key project  "Technology and System of Interactive and Multi-dimensional Game Watching Experience for Ice and Snow Sports", which was led by Peking University, at No.5 Courtyard of Jing Yuan, PKU. Sci-Tech Winter Olympics Committee leaders, project experts and other honorable guests attended the event. Professor Baoquan Chen, principal investigator and executive director of CFCS, PKU hosted the meeting.

Based on the characteristics of ice and snow sports, this project focuses on studying VR/360 program shooting, content generation, efficient encoding and decoding of 8K video stream, adaptive transmission and interactive VR presentation and other key technologies, thus developing an interactive multi-dimensional game watching experience system that can be applied to cable television network, telecom network, 5G network, Internet and other platforms. This project not only contributes to the continuous improvement of sports science and technology innovation ability, but also has great significance in promoting China's independent Ultra HD and virtual reality technology and industrial development.
