Center on Frontiers of Computing Studies (CFCS), Peking University hosted the 4th Youth Forum on Frontiers of Computing on October 23rd, 2019 at No.5 Courtyard of Jing Yuan. Moderated by Professor Baoquan Chen, executive director of CFCS, this forum invited industrial leaders and young scholars from top universities around the world to share their newest research works.

At the opening ceremony, Professor John E. Hopcroft, director of CFCS, initiator of Turing Class, and foreign member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, welcomed everyone and hopes that more and more young scholars will join CFCS where he has great expectations in its development. Professor Hopcroft compared the differences between China and United States in student cultivation, introduced the background of establishing CFCS, Peking University and highly confirmed PKU students' performance.

Dr. Jieping Ye, head of Didi AI Labs and VP of Didi Chuxing, delivered a keynote speech entitled AI for transportation, introducing how Didi Chuxing utilizes AI to improve millions of users' travel experience.

Another keynote speaker, Dr. Hui Xiong, head of Business Intelligence Lab and Talent Intelligence Center at Baidu, introduced Baidu's research in mobile analytics and its prospects and opportunities.

Professor Xiaotie Deng, Dr. Yuqing Kong and Dr. Hao Dong from CFCS co-chaired the session of Young Scholar Speech. Biaoshuai Tao from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor introduced the recent advancements in the theory of influence maximization from the aspects of computational complexity, approximability and algorithms design. Ruiyu Zhu from Indiana University Bloomington shared his research around the theme of salable actively-secure multiparty computations. Dr. Yong Zhuang from Carnegie Mellon University gave a speech on large-scale machine learning: a case study of matrix factorization and field-aware factorization machines.
Dr. Caigui Jiang, a research scientist of KAUST, introduced his recent projects on architectural geometry. Chen Qin from Imperial College London gave a talk introducing several deep learning techniques for medical imaging. Pengzhan Zhou from Stony Brook University offered a speech on data-driven online optimization of parking placement and truthful incentivizing for electric bike sharing.
After the speeches, the faculty and young scholars had a lively panel discussion with the theme of "Opportunities and Challenges for Young Faculty in China", co-chaired by Dr. Yunhuai Liu, the researcher of Beijing Institute of Big Data Research, and Dr. Hao Dong, the researcher of CFCS.
Professor Yizhou Wang, vice director of CFCS, concluded the forum and looked forward to seeing more outstanding young scholars to be a part of CFCS, devoting to the improvement of China’s higher education and scientific research together.
